Hi there book lovers and book dragons. Today marks my day on the blog tour for The Starfolk Arcana by Martha Dunlop and I can say this book had me just by the gorgeously bright cover! I knew it was fate and that I needed to read this book but before I tell you why you should, let me tell you about the book.

My Bookish Thoughts

Anyone who knows me or is a reader, knows the struggles of trying to say no to beautiful covers. It’s hard. Really damn hard, sometimes you don’t even read the blurb. It also made it feel like fate when I recieved a personalised note from the author. It was adorable and an amazing pick me up.

This book was one of those cases. I jumped at the chance to be on the tour before reading about what this uniquely written fantasy book had in store for me. It took me on an advantage I adored and had me dying for a place in the deck.

The book centres around the narrative of two main characters – Beth and Jonan. Beth is a spiritual personality, aware of her abilities and ties to the spiritual world, however is unaware of her role as a chosen one, a role that is vital to keeping the balance. Jonan has been searching his who life for a woman who visits him in his dreams, someone he had spent lifetimes believing in it being someone else, someone with the ability to bring down everything and disrupt the balance. He has been searching for the woman with the keys to his history and destiny. The two are soon drawn together, a connection neither of them can deny.

As you stumble through the pages of the book, it opens your imagination to the spiritual side of supernatural fiction, a side I have been drawn to as a child. As I followed them along the adventure, I realised how much I have neglected urban fantasy books and how much I need to pick up more.

My Thoughts?

*The writing style is enjoyable, not too heavy or foreseeable. It is easy to sink you claws into the page and devour a chunk with a slice of cake.

*The characters had a realness to them, they felt human even though some were something new. Beth was strong, determined to find the truth out for herself, Jonan wasn’t pushy, wasn’t controlling even though she was the girl of his dreams. I mean literally, and that can normally get a little creepy.

*I loved the uniqueness of the book. It felt different as though I had a spiritual tether to their world. It was a fantastic journey, opening my eye up to the beliefs of tarot. It has made me curious and that’s the best thing an author can do.

*The book was magical, perfect for any lovers of urban fantasy, New Adult, Young Adult and Paranormal Fantasy. It was a refresher pallatte cleanser and I am excited to see where the author takes this story. I will be following the sequel closely on goodreads.

About the Author

Martha is a dreamer and lover of stories who likes nothing better than spending her days exploring the paranormal and intuitive senses and getting to know the characters in her head.

She is a tarot card reader and Reiki Master, and loves to chat reading, writing and all things mystical on social media, as well as posting pictures of her fellow pack-member, Bertie the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Martha is a fiddle player who fell in love with all kinds of traditional music, but particularly Irish, and is also teaching herself to play the Irish Bouzouki. She played her way through her English degree at York and remembers that time as much for the music as the books.

Martha started her working life in PR because she wanted to write and in the end she left PR because she wanted to write more. But along the way she had the opportunity to work with journalists, hone her writing and editing skills and adapt to the many voices she was asked to use.
