Shackles of the Storm by D & L Kardenal was such a fun summer read. Thank you to Love Book Tours for organising this amazing tour.

But before I tell you what I thought, here is a little bit about the book.

Kahlaran hasn’t had a djinn in decades. At least none that they know of.

Zaira has so far successfully avoided being found out as a wind spirit, steering clear of trouble and living the life of an ordinary human. Her luck finally runs out when she meets one of her own kind: a water djinn somehow hell-bent on evicting her for a murder she didn’t commit. Without her past djinn powers and the whole city against her, the odds of a happy ending are quite slim.

Luckily, she’s not alone. Forming a hasty alliance with fellow scapegoat and hot-headed mercenary Ezair, the pair has to navigate through the slums and shady brothels of the city, fighting guards, ghouls, magicians, and occasionally each other. But can they really overcome an enemy capable of peeking through every puddle, cup, and teardrop?

Bookish Thoughts

Shackles of the Storm is an exciting new adventure that gives a new light to the magic of djinn. Now I love djinn, the lore and the inspiration fiction has drawn from them. They definitely deserve mote appreciation. This book was the perfect reason why.

What I loved about this book is the mystery it pulls you into to start, an investigation that is about to recreate the game. I loved the adventure it took you on in the journey of self preservation and survival. I also loved our main djinn and her story. She goes from surviving and remaining invisible to becoming public enemy number one. And she doesn’t let it shake her.

Shackles of the Storm was such an easy read and was so addictive. The world building was well down and I failed to put it down, multiple times. I loved the writing style and am excited to see what other magic is to come from the world. I also loved how real and relatable the characters were. It reminded me of why I love fantasy so much. I left me craving for adventure, an adventure that has yet to be published. I think I am going to be stalking the authors on goodreads to find news on book 2.
